What Is TB-500?
TB-500 is a synthetic analogue of the active region of Thymosin Beta-4 - a protein naturally produced by platelets and found throughout the body. It regulates actin, the scaffold protein inside every cell that enables movement and repair. Researchers study TB-500 for accelerating wound healing, reducing inflammation, and potentially supporting cardiac and neurological tissue repair.
- ▸Thymosin Beta-4 promoted cardiomyocyte survival and reduced infarct size by ~24% in a mouse myocardial infarction model (PMID: 22959979).
- ▸Hair follicle activation: TB-4 (full protein) stimulated hair regrowth in mouse dorsal skin models; 20% faster follicle entry into anagen phase vs. controls.
- ▸Corneal healing: Topical thymosin beta-4 accelerated corneal epithelial wound closure in rabbit models by approximately 40% vs. saline (PMID: 12740574).
- ▸Central nervous system: Thymosin beta-4 improved motor function recovery and promoted oligodendrocyte differentiation in mouse stroke models.
- ▸Note: Most studies use full-length thymosin beta-4 protein, not the TB-500 fragment specifically. The two are often conflated in non-peer-reviewed literature.
