How We Verify
This page explains how peptide data is sourced, verified, and kept current in PeptaBase.
Data sources
Peptide records are sourced from peer-reviewed literature, regulatory databases (FDA, EMA), clinical trial registries, and published pharmacokinetic studies. We prioritize primary sources and official documentation over secondary summaries.
Citation verification
Every PubMed link is verified against the NCBI database to ensure the citation exists and is relevant. Broken or misleading links are removed. Study metadata (authors, journal, year, PMID) is pulled directly from PubMed's API.
Dosage and pharmacokinetic data
Typical dosage ranges, half-life values, and administration methods are sourced from peer-reviewed clinical and preclinical research. When conflicting data exists, we document the source and note variations in the record.
Evidence level assessment
Evidence levels reflect the breadth and maturity of the research base. Green (human clinical) indicates FDA approval or human trial data. Yellow (animal/in-vivo) indicates rodent or animal studies. Red (cell-based) indicates in vitro or mechanistic research only.
Regular review and updates
Records are reviewed quarterly or when new significant literature emerges. Updates include new citations, clarifications to dosage data, and corrections to previous errors. Review timestamps are maintained for transparency.
